During Pregnancy

Prenatal Care Basics

  • Confirming Pregnancy: Pregnancy is typically verified after a missed period. Most home tests are accurate 4-5 weeks after your last period. Contact our office for additional testing if needed.
  • Regular Appointments: Your prenatal care schedule includes:
    • First visit at 6-8 weeks
    • Visits every 4 weeks until 24 weeks
    • Visits every 2-3 weeks until 36 weeks
    • Weekly visits from 36 weeks until delivery
  • Postpartum Care: A postpartum visit will occur about six weeks after delivery, with additional follow-ups if you had a cesarean delivery.

Prenatal Tests and Screenings:

We offer comprehensive prenatal and genetic screening options to monitor your baby’s development and identify potential concerns early. Tests include:

  • California Prenatal Screening Test: Includes an NT ultrasound and blood draws.
  • Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT): Screens for specific chromosomal conditions.
  • Additional Tests: Available for high-risk pregnancies, including CVS and amniocentesis.

Common Pregnancy Symptoms:

  • Nausea and Vomiting: Managed with dietary changes, ginger, or medication if severe.
  • Abdominal Pain: Mild cramping is normal; severe pain should be evaluated.
  • Weight Gain Guidelines: Recommendations vary based on pre-pregnancy BMI.
